In the spring of 2007, I recorded some improvisations and piano samples when I was a resident at the Yaddo artist colony. These recordings led to the development of an extensive experimental electro-acoustic piano project entitled Abstract Piano Music. The piece consists of 12 movements and each movement is based on different ways of producing new sonorities on the piano. Most of the sounds are manipulated physically during recording and later heavily processed again digitally by computer. By combining traditional composition techniques and modern technology, the result is sonically, texturally and spatially rich.
